10 Fun Fall Activities for Kids

10 Fun Fall Activities for Kids

Fall is such a popular season for obvious reasons - fall activities! Something about the leaves changing colors and the air getting brisker makes activities that much more fun!  These 10 activities are perfect for on-the-fly ways to keep your kiddos entertained this fall season!

1. Fall Coloring Page

One of my favorite easy, go-to activities is coloring pages! Kids love the ability to freely express themselves by creating their very own colorful pictures. Here are some free fall coloring pages to print at home!

2. Nature Walk/Leaf Collage

Nature walks are a great way to get outside, while also being on the hunt for some nature supplies! Grab a bag and have your child look for items on their nature walk that they can use to make a collage later on. After you've gathered some items, bring them back and let your child use their imagination to create something with what they have found.

3. Leaf Rubbing Art

One of my favorite memories as a kid was making rubbing art of leaves using crayons. I was always amazed by the print it left on my paper when I rubbed my crayon over a leaf. Plus, there are so many combos of scented/glittery crayons these days that it adds some extra fun!

4. Melted Crayons Fall Leaves

Since we're on the topic of crayons - using silicone molds to create different shaped crayons is the perfect way to add in some seasonal fun. For fall, I like to use this leaf silicone mold (which comes with some bonus pumpkin molds).

5. Fall Scavenger Hunt

A nature scavenger hunt is so much more fun in the fall! When the leaves begin to change colors, it seems we are able to appreciate the outside a bit more!

6. Squirrel/Bird Feeder

This is an activity I always remembered and enjoyed doing as a kid. Grab some peanut butter (or crisco for peanut-free homes), bird feed, and an apple. Rub some peanut butter or crisco on the apple, dip into the bird feed and then find a place outside to hang your apple.

7. Homemade Apple Sauce

One of my core memories from my own childhood is making homemade apple sauce! For as long as I can remember I've always had a sweet tooth, and something about the sweet smell of apples and cinnamon gets me every time! Here's a quick and easy recipe for homemade apple sauce at home!

8. Pumpkin Science

The fall season was made for pumpkin science! Enjoy a day at the pumpkin patch and let your child pick out their very own, special pumpkin. Before you get ready to decorate them, use this free pumpkin science activity to help encourage your child to explore all things about their pumpkins!

9. Read Aloud Ideas

These stories are sure to get your child excited about reading during the fall season! Some of my favorite read-aloud stories for the fall season include:

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak

The Very Last Leaf by Stef Wade

Tree Full of Wonder by Anna Smithers

Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano

10. Paint Pumpkins

Last but not least, we could not leave out pumpkins on our must-do fall activity list. But I'm not going to lie... carving pumpkins is more of a mess than I'm willing to deal with, which is why for our last activity we have PAINTING pumpkins! Painting pumpkins is much more kid-friendly and accessible for our little ones.  Plus, they make pretty cute fall decor afterward!

The fall season is one of my favorites because there's so much to do outside. I hope you and your kiddos can get out and explore some nature this fall season and make some new memories along the way!
